We have long known that families play a crucial role in shaping childrens’ futures.
According to a report from the Executive Office of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers in 2000, “Parental involvement is a major influence in helping teens avoid risks such as smoking, drinking, drug use, sexual activity, violence, and suicide attempts, while increasing educational achievement and expected attainment. These results persist after taking account of differences in teens’ gender, poverty status, and family structure.”
The Mead Family Foundation supports organizations providing resources to families in order to strengthen their family connection and to increase parenting skills. More information on the exceptional work being done by grantees is outlined here.
